Previewed: Toyota Avensis NGTC


GPR Motorsport has unveiled the Toyota Avensis NGTC car that will will make its track debut in the final round of this year’s Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship. James Thompsion will sit behind the steering wheel of the Toyota Avensis NGTC, in the last stage of the British Touring Car Championship, a stage that will be held between 9 and 10 October at Brands Hatch.

The new Avensis NGTC is being designed and engineered to new BTCC regs by GPR Motorsport in Buckingham.

Toyota has offered GPR Motorsport a donor car, together with a bodyshell to build to the new specification that will become effective starting from next year’s season. The automotive producer isn’t willing to re-enter the championship with a works team, but will offer support to TOCA (Touring Car Association, the organizers of the series).

Toyota has stated there are no plans to re-enter the championship with a works team, but has been pleased to lend its support to ToCA (Touring Car Association), appropriately with the British-built Avensis which is manufactured at Burnaston in Derbyshire, close to the Donington Park race circuit.

First images of the Toyota Avensis


Next Generation Touring Car (NGTC) have been released, revealing the racing concept that will make its track debut in the final round of this year’s Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship.
The artist’s drawings reveal more design details of the Avensis that is being designed and engineered by GPR Motorsport in Buckingham as a test and development model for new BTCC regulations.

Toyota has supplied GPR Motorsport with a donor car and bodyshell to build to the new specifications, which teams will be able to adopt from the 2011 season. James Thompson, a BTCC double champion, will pilot the Avensis NGTC when it makes its first public race appearance at Brands Hatch on 9 – 10 October.
