Germany's specialist automotive show at Essen next month is to stage the public debut of Abt's re-worked Volkswagen Tiguan SUV, which will in standard VW guise be launched early next year. The tuned Tiguan is styled by an aggressive bodykit and underpinned by an impressive range of power upgrades.
Exterior modifications include most strikingly the new Abt-developed two-toned bodykit, featuring new front and rear spoilers, more pronounced wheel arches, new side skirts and new grille - all the features of which include new graphite panels for a fresher, more aggressive face. New alloys are available with the choice of 18", 19" or 20" rims.
But a purely cosmetic procedure was not the result of treatment by tuner Abt. Venturing under the skin, power upgrades are significant, with power from the 1.4 turbocharged FSI unit climbing to 200 hp from 150. The two 2.0-litre turbodiesel units increase in power from 140 and 170 hp in standard guise to that of 170 and 200 hp respectively. Adjustable sports suspension and an enhanced braking system aid upgrades in power. Performance figures are as yet unknown.
Stay tuned for more information on the Abt Tiguan ahead of its debut at Essen. The German tuning show runs from 1st to 9th December and focuses on tuners, motorsport, classic cars and automotive accessories.
